Nov 16, 2018Three players (Garry Birtles, Peter Shilton and John Robertson) appeared in all 20 of our European Cup games from 1979 to 1981. Raimondo Ponte appeared in only one of the games, coming on as a sub.

Jan 09, 2019The last time we played Manchester United, we lost 8-1 at home and their new manager (Ole Gunnar Solskjaer) scored four goals in the last 10 minutes after coming on as a sub. It's still the largest home defeat in the Premier League.

Sep 25, 2020The last time we lost our first three league games was in 1954, which is 66 years ago! We lost our first FIVE games that season and finished in 15th place, (but Derby finished bottom).
In total, we've only lost our first three league games of the season 4 times before this year. We then only won the fourth game just one time...

Aug 20, 2021For the second consecutive season we lost our first four league games. Last season we won our fifth game and finished 17th in the league.

Aug 29, 2021We have retained the Brian Clough Trophy for the 6th time (and held it for the last 7 games) which is a cup record. For the full stats on the Trophy, click here.
Sep 11, 2021The start to this season is now equal worst with the 1913-14 season. In that year we only had one point after 8 games, so we have two more games to avoid being the worst ever.
We finished bottom of the Second Division that season; it was the lowest division at the time and we avoided relegation by being re-elected by the League.

Oct 03, 2021The last time we scored 3 goals in consecutive games was back in the 2015-16 season season. On Nov 28, 2015 we beat Reading 3-1 and the following Saturday we beat Fulham 3-0. Interestingly, Chris O'Grady scored one goal in each game and they were his only two goals for us.
Oct 16, 2021The last time we won three consecutive league games was on New Year's Day, 2020. We beat Hull, Wigan and Blackburn in those three victories.
Oct 18, 2021The win away at Bristol was our fourth consecutive victory. The last time we won four consecutive games was back in the 2012-13 season. We beat Ipswich 1-0 on March 5, 2013 and then continued to beat Wolves and Hull in the next two games to make it 5 and then 6 consecutive league wins. Our record for consecutive wins is 7 games, and we have done that four times.
Oct 18, 2021The two goals that Lyle Taylor scored in the 90th and 91st minutes against Bristol makes it only the second time we've scored two goals in injury time. The other game was against Newcastle United in the 2nd Round of the League Cup in 2018, and three of the four goals were scored after the 90th minute. We were winning 1-0 (Daryl Murphy scored after just 2 mins) until Salomon Rondon equalised for Newcastle in the 92nd minute. Then Matty Cash put us back in the lead 2 minutes later before Gil Dias put it to bed on 90+7.
Oct 25, 2021The 4-0 home loss to Fulham was only the second time that we've lost 4-0 at home more than once in the same season. The previous season was 1922-23 when we lost to Chelsea and West Brom, both in the league.

Dec 24, 2023Merry Christmas! We've played 37 games on Christmas Day; the last one was on Dec 25th, 1957 when we beat Newcastle United 4-1 away!
Dec 30, 2023The 2-1 end-of-year victory over Manchester United meant we ended a losing streak of 12 games to them that had lasted for 29 years! That means our longest streak without a win is now against Walsall. Our last win against the Saddlers was 12 games and 24 years ago, in February 2000. Jan 08, 2024Our 3rd round game against Blackpool is only the second time we've met them in the Cup. The first was last season when we lost 4-1! And the return game at Blackpool will be our first replay in almost ten years. Jan 24, 2014 was our last replayed game, when we beat Preston 2-0 away.

Way back in 1890 (in the second season of the Football Alliance) we were docked the 2 points we earned for the 5-1 victory away at Bootle after goalkeeper Tom Widdowson was deemed ineligible to play. Click here for more details.
