GOALKEEPER SUBS

These are the times that a goalkeeper has had to be subbed off inured or was sent off, and had to be replaced.
Prior to 1990, we did not have to include a goalkeeper on the sub's bench, so outfield players had to go in goal to replace the regular keeper. Ian Bowyer had the opportunity to do this twice (in 1975 and 1986) and only let in one goal!

Here are all the competitive games where a goalkeeper went off, along with the match review.

Peter Grummitt broke his thumb in the 82nd minute. Dave Hilley came on to replace him as an outfield player, and Joe Baker went in goal for the last 10 minutes.
The Daily Mirror reported that Joe Baker wasn't troubled by Chelsea at all while he was in goal. They also went on to say that Henry Newton shouted at Baker for taking more than 4 steps with the ball, and that Chelsea defender Johnny Boyle was then booked for arguing with the ref that Baker had taken more than the allowed steps. The referee then 'gave Baker a comic demonstration of what he must not do'!

Goalkeeper Barry Roche made his Forest league debut in some style tonight. After taking a 3-0 lead by half-time, Palace pulled it back to 3-2 with just ten minutes to go. Then in the 90th minute keeper Dave Beasant saw a red after bringing down Zhiyi Fan. Roche came on to face the penalty. It was duly scored by Julian Gray but the ref asked it to be retaken and, with his first touch of the ball in the league, Roche saved it to give us the 3-2 victory.

Holy crap. We are in the Premier League! After a terrible game at Wembley where Huddersfield defended for the whole of the first half, we scored with an own goal (that Ryan Yates might have got to anyway) and then survived two penalty calls (both of which looked likely to be given until VAR confirmed they weren't) to get us back into the top tier after 22 years.
