The Anglo-Scottish cup was initially a challenge game between the winnners of the English FA Cup and the Scottish Cup. Forest (as FA Cup holders) played St Mirren in the 1959 game, over 2 legs. In the 1970s, Texaco sponsored the tournament and it was opened to clubs from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and The Republic Of Ireland. After the withdrawal of Texaco's sponsorship in 1975, the competition was rebranded as the Anglo-Scottish Cup and only involved English and Scottish teams.
Forest won the 1976-77 version of the Cup, beating Leyton Orient 5-1 over two legs.
