Review
A very sad at the City Ground as Brian Clough had announced his retirement earlier in the week and this was to be his last home game. We were facing relegation and, with 2 games to go, we were three points behind the visitors (with a -18 goal difference!), but this was always going to be more than a 6 pointer. With 15 minutes to go Brian Gayle scored United's second goal and that was that. However the United fans started chanting Brian's name, he came out of the dugout and gave them a thumbs up and we knew it was the end. Brian came back out for a lap of honour after the final whistle but the City Ground would never see him in charge again.
