Relegated for the first time
After 14 seasons in the top flight, we were relegated on this day in 1906 for the first time in our history. We were safe before the start of play with a 1 point lead over Bury and Middlesbrough, but our 4-1 loss at Everton combined with a win for Bury and a draw for 'Boro draw meant we were relegated on Goal Average. We won the Second Division as champions the following season, though.
